Yoga & Posture II Workshop Saturday October 6th

Centering, the Core & Bliss – with Kara Krista

Strengthen not only your core and yoga practice but your sense of inner balance and ‘being’ for enhanced peace of mind.

We may talk about “being centred” or having a strong core but what does it truly mean, why is it important and how can we practice yoga and live from this place?

In this workshop for people with some yoga experience we’ll explore the practice of centering, strengthen the intricate web of deep core muscles extending throughout the spine and deepen our body awareness and presence in every moment.

This rich day of physical and spiritual practice includes slow, yoga asana to activate the deep core muscles, a centering vinyasa flow sequence, meditation and self- massage.

Our “Centre”, lying deep in the abdomen is known in yoga as the Nobhu or Kanda. All the Nadis, energy channels of the body spring forth from this place. In Western terms the centre equates to our Enteric nervous system, (part of the Autonomic nervous system) our ‘first brain’ and is associated with our digestive system, metabolism and our felt sense of the world.

“Through the enteric brain we receive the vital intelligence of the body. It perceives, thinks, acts and remembers without any input from the cranial brain. Move out of your head and into your life.”
~ Phillip Shepherd. Author of “New Self, New World: Recovering Our Senses in the Twenty-First Century.”

Through activating this powerful energy centre we may enhance our entire spinal stability, mobility and function, assist our bodies to more effectively cleanse and detoxify, feel more grounded and stable and increase our vitality, inner confidence, calm and joy.

When we move from our centre it provides a foundation to maintain the integrity of the spine, which then ripples out to all the peripheral joints. Being centered also elicits the recruitment of more muscles to work synergistically together.

In creating a more stable, integrated and holistic blueprint for movement, we reduce the burden of strain on our bodies.

The overloading of any one muscle or muscle group is avoided, allowing our connective tissues to retain their natural suppleness, freeing up our energy flow and ultimately enhancing the health and vitality of every aspect of our being.
