An Energetic Cleansing Hatha Yoga Workshop ~ Sunday September 9th 2018

By Vivianne Barry | In PAST EVENTS

Explore breath as energy and movement in the body

Join Emily and Maurie in a 3 hour workshop learning yogic techniques that can harness, direct and control the movements of energy in our body. In the lineage of classical Hatha yoga you will be guided through cleansing techniques, physical exercises and controlled breath work to cleanse the energy channels of our pranic/etheric body, known as Pranamaya Kosha.

Learn the ‘Five Tibetan Rites’, a series of movements similar to Indian yoga poses, yet less static and executed as a systematic vinyasa complementing the breath work. The ‘Tibetans’ are simple, powerful, highly energizing exercises originating from the Himalayas and offer outstanding benefits of longevity and rejuvenation. Stimulating the nerve plexuses along the spinal pathway, through regular practice intense stimulation in the regions of the chakras can be identified.

The workshop will enhance your awareness of the subtle vibrations of the energetic body and cultivate an experiential understanding of key concepts such as ‘Prana’, ‘Nadis’ and ‘Kriyas’. Classical pranayamas will be presented and practised. (This beautiful diagram is from the book that Emily & Maurie have co-authored)

When: Sunday 9th of September

Time: 10.00 am – 1.00pm

Cost: $50 pre booked or $55 on the day. Handout notes included.

Pay online by clicking through to Paypal, or pay at the studio or email viv@yogacircle.com.au for bank transfer details. This workshop is open to all levels of experience except complete beginners to yoga.

About the teachers

Maurie Earls and Emily Curtis were both lucky enough to have studied intensively under the guidance of Acharya Upendra Roy, a highly knowledgeable teacher who opened one of Australia’s first yoga schools in 1969; he embraced and taught the practices of both Hatha and Raja yoga.

Maurie took up yoga for stress management over 43 years ago as a busy human resources manager and it changed his life! Maurie is trained by Acharya and holds an IYTA Teachers’ Diploma and has been teaching since 1978. In recent years he has mentored in the full range of Hatha Yoga practices at various venues in central Sydney and in recent years on the south coast of NSW. He maintains his long-term studies of the Bhagavad Gita and the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali and from time to time conducts courses on these classics of yoga wisdom.

Emily, as well as being trained by Acharaya in 2002, has completed over 600 hours of Yoga Teacher Training in India. She taught for many years at Acharyas Yoga Centre in Sydney as well as overseas teaching in India, France, Portugal, Korea and now at Yoga Circle since 2015.

The two have collaborated on projects including the curation of a book publication ‘The Teachings of Hatha and Raja Yoga of Acharya Upendra Roy’ as well as on various retreats in NSW.
