Annie is a certified yoga instructor, RYT 500 hours, through The Australasian Yoga Institute, which allows her to conduct 200 hour yoga Teacher Training courses. She has been practicing and studying numerous styles of yoga since 1968, and teaching for over three decades.
In 1968 she came to yoga as a teenager to the Gita School of Yoga in Melbourne and chose to practice and study yoga over having surgery, to help her congenital back problem. She has continued regular yoga practice throughout her life and believes that her history has given her both insight and empathy with others experiencing physical problems or limitations.
Annie has studied, practiced and taught classes in Mindfulness yoga, Hatha, Restorative, Yin, Pre-natal, Iyengar and Ashtanga yoga in both Australia and Indonesia. Her most influential teachers are Margrit Segesman, Elsa Rabold, Michel Besnard, Graeme Northfield and Dina Kingsberg. Annie conveys her life-long passion of yoga to teach others, in order to bring about the transformative practice of yoga.
She structures her classes so they are nurturing, sometimes challenging, and are suitable for all levels. They have an emphasis on mindfulness through attention to the breath and correct alignment. She specialises in knowledge of the body and providing modifications, using props, and giving personalised adjustments.
Annie has been formally studying Tibetan Buddhism for seventeen years, predominantly at Chenrezig Institute, in Eudlo on the Sunshine Coast. She has regularly travelled to India, Indonesia and Nepal for both teachings with His Holiness the Dalai Lama and doing retreats. She goes over to Indonesia to conduct her research and recently presented a paper (her second publication) on her on-going research on the early history of Mahayana Buddhism in Indonesia and taught Mindfulness yoga classes at the 14th Sakyadhita Conference for Buddhist Women, in Java, Indonesia, in June 2015. Passionate about languages and culture, she recently commenced learning Russian, and is studying Russian history. Annie is committed to her life-long yoga and meditation practices and her enthusiasm and passion for teaching others shines through in her classes.
