Iyengar Yoga follows the 8 limbs of yoga expounded by Patanjali in The Yoga Sutras. It is a disciplined and deeply researched system developed over 75 years by Yogacharya B.K.S. Iyengar who recently passed this earth at 96 years of age.
It is unique in that it is characterised by its emphasis on precision and alignment, planned sequencing, timing and use of props. This allows people of varying ages, levels of health and fitness to enjoy the benefits ensuing from regular practice such as developing strength, mobility and stability. We also have rope walls which provide wonderful support to hold you in the poses in a safe way.
The term ‘Iyengar Yoga’ was coined by students of Mr Iyengar to distinguish his approach from other styles. This yoga is taught by Level II Certified Teacher Susan Rodgers, Tracey Mohrbutter or Renate Frommell or Frances Zirkler. The class outlines are below.
