COURSE CONTENT

What is Yoga about?  Where does it come from and why is it good for me?  Is it a religion or a spiritual philosophy?  Do I have to be flexible or does it give me flexibility? How do I learn the movements? Where to begin the journey into a 2,000 year old tradition?

Yoga is a journey of self discovery into the body and the breath, eventually stilling the mind and finding space within, leading you then to the gates of meditation. The yoga science of self realisation is all about direct experience.

This 6 week course will break down Hatha (Physical) Yoga into the essential components and lay a solid foundation to explore further.  Each class will include:

  • Introduction to yoga philosophy – short discussion + reading recommendations;
  • Explain the different forms and types of yoga;
  • Pranayama – simple breathing exercises to expand breath capacity and calm the nervous system;
  • Suraya Namaskar – learn Sun Salutation sequences, a core component of any class or home practice;
  • Asana – explore a different key yoga posture each class including: downward dog, tree, warrior, triangle, bridge and spinal twist; and
  • Relaxation – seal the class with a deep body relaxation integrating all you have learned into your body wisdom.

This course is a great refresher for those who have been attending yoga for a while and would like to go a bit deeper and feel guided through the process.  There will be opportunity for discussion, feedback and questions – unlike most classes where you may feel you can’t ask questions midway through the sequence … fire away!   Ask all the things you’ve always wondered about at any time during the class.

You will come away from the course comfortable to attend most yoga classes, do your own morning sun salutes at home + start exploring a few different poses to complement this sequence.  Suitable for all body types and levels of fitness.

ABOUT THE TEACHERS

viv-kahunaYour Tuesday teacher, Vivianne, has been practicing, studying and breathing yoga for more than twenty years.

Vivianne owns and manages Yoga Circle and teaches Vinyasa yoga as a meditation of breath, movement and positive intention. She teaches us to channel energy from around and within, to clear internal energetic pathways and so heal the body and feel peaceful connection to Self and Universe. Her classes are set with the intention of a deep transformational mind-body experience from the warm-up to the closing relaxation.

Emily Curtis headshotYour Wednesday teacher, Emily, was trained in an authentic tradition of Hatha and Raja yoga by her teacher Acharya Upendra Roy, in Sydney. She has been dedicated to practicing yoga since 1998 and began teaching in 2002. Her passion for yoga took her to India multiple times where she spent extended periods immersed in yoga and yogic philosophy. Here she practiced with various teachers from the Iyengar and Sivananda traditions, completing further teacher-training certificates from both schools.

 


PRIVATE HEALTH FUND REBATES 

Most private Health Funds will refund you for Beginner Yoga Courses which gives you a BIG saving on your course.  This will depend on your “extras package”.

We will provide you with an approved receipt if you request it.  Most of our teachers are registered with Yoga Australia or the BKS Iyengar Association of Australia both of which are recognised by health funds as approved suppliers.

You will need to check with your health fund and ask exactly what is required to claim the 6 week Beginner Course. e.g. do you need a referral from a GP, medical specialist, chiro or physio.

It is worth your time to find out about these rebates as they can be up to $400 per annum.  So now you can get a double whammy bonus of learning about yoga and making the most out of your health fund!
